ChendaWrites: Heart of Gold

Heart of Gold

I found a man
with a heart
of gold, and thus
followed him
home, through
age and ages.

Our mistakes
amplified, and
our brambled
mis-decisions
jumbled by
pin-the-tail
on the donkey.

Babies and
birthdays
and white picket
fences, gated
between us
and our dandelion
dreams.

The roads not
taken, and my heart
flung wide, like
a piñata spilling
fractured rainbows
across the sky.

Note: “I want to live
I want to give
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.”

Neil Young: “Heart of Gold” (1972)
